Alice in Wonderland too scary for kids?

March 3, 2010

Curiouser and Curiouser…

The highly anticipated Tim Burton adaptation of the classic Disney picture ‘Alice in Wonderland’ will be released in Australia tomorrow, March 4.

But will cinemas be filled with children enjoying the fantasy film given that the film has been deemed to include ‘scary scenes and fantasy violence’? The film has been classified PG and it is feared that the movie contains material that children may find ‘confusing and upsetting’.

Director Tim Burton has picked up the film from where the original author Lewis Carroll left off; Alice is 19 and is returning to Wonderland. As with many of Burton’s films, the movie has a dark twist.

So before taking the kids to see it, perhaps consider the original Disney 1951 animated Alice in Wonderland, sans a creepy Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

In any case, I can’t wait to see it… now I must go…. I’m late, I’m late, for a very important date…
