Dodgy cab drivers? There’s an app for that…

June 3, 2010

A couple of months ago I blogged about 13CABS launching their iPhone app where I pointed out  some of the features of this app which allowed you to book a taxi and locate nearby taxi ranks.

Well since then 13CABS, yes they also  have a Twitter account,  have responded to the community’s feedback and general concerns about the taxi industry with an updated app, which I have to say, is extremely impressive.

Some of the new features include a camera option called ‘Taxi Tracker’ which allows you to take a photo of your cab number and send directly to 13CABS. This can be handy if you have a problem such as a cabbie not taking your booking or driving irresponsibly. 13CABS are committed to offering an excellence service and are taking these measures to identify those who can sometime unfortunately give the industry a bad name.

The updated app also allows for wheelchair and maxicab bookings a ‘Cab Whistler’ to hail a taxi and an option to speak to a 13CABS operator, which, should  all go to plan, you shouldn’t have to use.

Before the new app was even launched, they had already had in excess of 50,000 downloads resulting in more than 20,000 bookings. These are phenomenal numbers which show that  the public want a quicker and easier way of booking a taxi; we don’t want to be put on hold and we don’t want to try to find a cab to hail down (especially when it seems that every one that drives past is unavailable).

At the moment you can only get the 13CABS app for the iPhone, but the brains behind the project are already working on  a version for Blackberry, Android and other smartphones, to be released in the future.
